Yes, Snoring is the most common symptom of "sleep apnea" and "upper airway resistance syndrome". Sleep Apnea is where someone stops breathing frequently during sleep. Upper Airway Resistance Syndrom is where patient don't stop breathing but they have to work so hard to breath they never get a good nights sleep. There are now multiple studies showing increased workplace accidents, increased motor vehicle accidents, and decreased work performance associated with these. Sleep apnea increases risks of high blood pressure, diabetes, heart attacks, and strokes.

New onset of snoring -- especially if sudden and worsening, needs immediate attention. Although very rare, this can indicate something partially blocking the airway such as a tumor.
